Goin back to some of the reponses about it destroying your shoulder joints and back etc, this is absolute nonsense providing you do it correctly. Its not about how much weight you can lift, its about how long you can use the KB for without putting it down. You can see fitnessvip is comfortable in what he’s doing because he is not over exerting in any exercise which obviously mean he has selected a weight he can effectivly carry out the exercises.

This is by far one of the best KB videos i’ve seen on youtube, the exercises are executed perfectly. I have done steve cotters IKFF qualification and i can really see that you know what your doing!! Great video.

Oh yeah I’m trying to lose fat specifically. The way it gets your heart pumping etc should be good to lose weight. But as with all exercises it burns calories…So, whether it’s great for weight loss…I’ve just decided to bite the bullet and see where it takes me.

As a beginner I’ve had a look on the net. Generally male beginner 16 kg and females 8 kg. KBs can go up beyond 32 kg easily.

I decided to go 20 kg starting out as I could shoulder press 20 kg already and swing though NOT for 10 mins 24 kg.

If you have access to a range of KB weights then perhaps purchasing a heavier one is worth working up to. Though not too heavy you know you will pull your glutes etc. If you get a chance to play with KBs you will see its not always about the weight I think.

IF you get hurt using KB’s you have a couple things going on. 1. your clueless
2. you should no longer go to a workout facility. If you have questions about KB injuries I would refer them to Steve Maxwell. Search his name on youtube. Just cause KB work is too tough for you dont go around and hate on people who have more courage than you. Thats actually worse then complaining about KB swings. Pay attention and use proper form…bottom line. Or just stay on the treadmill.

dadnatron, I don’t know if the kettlebell swings will damage your back, but i know from experience it will really destroy your shoulder joints!
DON’T DO HEAVY SWINGS WITH THE KETTLEBELLS

… KB is a relatively new exercise program in the states, is it not? If that is the case than how are these MDs seeing pt that have had so many years of experience. Truth be told, running is a far worse exercise…

don’t worry, doc, you’re not the only MD out there who doesn’t know what he’s talking about.

I actually know several chiropractors that are using kettlebells with their patients. Obviously, if done wrong, it can be dangerous (like any other exercises). Not sure if you ever done a swing but the primary muscle is NOT your lower back. The power is generated from your posterior chain.

Not sure what you meant. But KB swing is a very powerful movement and an excellent exercise to strengthen your core (including your lower back). Do some research about Kettlebell exercises and you will see what I mean.

I subscribe to Arnel’s site, and I think that alot of the program is excellent, however, these ballistic exercises are NOT good, and other, more stable exercises will perform the same function without the disc trauma. Keep up the good work Arnel, but realistically, you should look into the damage the swinging exercises are doing to your discs. Don’t be one of my 30 yo former athletes who have already had surgery and are now 40lbs overweight because they can’t bend at the waist.

As a physician who works on backs as my career, I can tell you that the ballistic swing exercises in this video are some of the most dangerous movements you can do concerning your back. The micro damage you are doing to your disc annulus at this age will come back to haunt you as you grow older. Disc herniations will be more likely and inability to thereafter exercise is a real possibility. Controlled movements with core stabilization is a must, if you want to maintain functionality for life.

one is heavier then the other….and even if they we’re the same….the shape gathers moment differently lol and you can roll it in your hand

not exactly. if u use a DB u’d have to hold it by one of the sides, making the end that’s hanging lighter,
the KB’s weight is all in the ball so it hangs so it would swing better

i dont see why a KB wont be as effective as a DB for the walk exercises. so yes you could use DBs for the walks. your muscles wont tell the difference between the two, its just the stimulus of the exercise that you need to worry about! weight is weight KB or not
