When your bell gets to about shoulder height try opening your hand and sort of pushing / “feeding” your hand through the bell. With practice you’ll get the motion so the bell doesn’t slap your wrist when doing snatches.

I’m sure I’m doing something wrong. I’m learning via youtube, which I can’t take to the gym, since noone around here even knows what they are, much less how to properly use them. They are worse on my non-dominant hand, so I’m sure it’s technique related. But they aren’t going away anytime soon.

that shouldnt be happening, you must be yanking the kb insted of just slipping your hand under the weight… ask the author of the vid, im no instructer…

My forearms have some nice bruises on the back from the one-hand snatches. But I do love doing them.

good job… but i think these exercise are mainly using momentum rather then muscle. When you doing “snatches”, it better doing “power clean” it involve muscle in it. Notice here when you doing snatches you just swing the ball straight up and drop the weight straight down. Anyway, you done a good job, maybe switch from snatches to power clean kattle ball and message me how it goes.

Hey man, I have an 8 month old son at home and usually get a quick workout in when he falls asleep. This is the one I’ve been using and it’s great. It isn’t my first choice, but, when time is an issue I’ve gotta do what I can. Thanks for posting!

Could this be classed as a metabolic resistance workout?

Reply

RhunDraco July 31, 2009 at 11:16 pm

Probably not any more than any kind of exercise using weights, if the people don’t have proper instruction.

Because the mass is not directly centered, they tend to pull away from the movement, and part of the benefit is developing the strength and coordination to keep the movements crisp, clean and under control. They’re not better than BBs or DBs, they just offer a different training stimulus. I also use sandbags, sledgehammers, tires, anything heavy!

are there any major advantages using kettlebells rather than other weights? or is it just variation?

Reply

posvid August 7, 2009 at 11:39 pm

I wonder how many people have broken kneecaps doing kettlebell workouts.

Read about it and maybe you’ll figure it out on your own….

Mind you I’m not sure you can read considering you’ve misspelled muscles…

youre missing the point dude. who has the space for a barbell, who has the money for one? and why waste money on a gym membership when you can just get one, maybe two 45 pounders?
