<p><strong>Kettle Bell Training</strong></p>
<p>There&#8217;s a new training method that&#8217;s sweeping the nation. Well, it&#8217;s new  in the U.S. for the most part, but kettlebell training is an age-old Russian sport. The Kettlebell, or girya, originated in Russia and can be traced as far back as the early 1700s. It&#8217;s a cast iron weight that has been described as looking somewhat like a cannonball with a handle. Popular with U.S. strongmen in the first half of the 20th century, kettlebells have made a comeback in this country led by the promotions of Pavel Tsatsouline and Valery Fedorenko.  Those world champions have led others to follow suit with their own brands of kettlebells and kettlebell exercise programs.</p>
<p>Common sizes of kettlebells are roughly 18 pounds, 26, 35, 53, 70 and 88,  with 88s being for &#8220;mutants&#8221; Pavel jokes. Men and women alike and people of all ages train with them nowadays. According to Pavel&#8217;s Web site www.russiankettlebells.com, the benefits include &#8220;building your staying power because the last round decides all&#8221; and &#8220;Hacks your fat off without the dishonor of dieting or aerobics.&#8221; Pavel also points out that a kettlebell is an all-in-one gym. &#8220;It makes you as strong as you want anywhere, anytime.&#8221;</p>
<p>An Ohio trainer I&#8217;ve talked with on many occasions stumbled onto kettlebells by accident several years ago and now says he can&#8217;t put them down. Andrew Durniat, 30, has not only become a champion kettlebell lifter, but also uses them in his business as a personal trainer. &#8220;I was in pretty good shape having played college lacrosse and was coaching and working out,&#8221; Durniat said. &#8220;I learned about (kettlebells) on the Internet and then picked them up for the first time at a national strength and conditioning show in St. Paul, Minn., in 2005.</p>
<p>&#8220;I could bench press about 350 pounds and squat 400, but within five or 10 minutes with the kettlebells, I was like &#8216;Oh shoot, these are legitimate.&#8217; I started training with a few guys knowledgeable in the sport and I&#8217;ve been hooked ever since. It&#8217;s just taken my strength and endurance to an entirely new level.&#8221;</p>
<p>In a short time, Durniat advanced as a kettlebell lifter to the point where he won the single-arm snatch competition at the North American Kettlebell Federation championships held in Salt Lake City in 2007. Durniat not only placed first, but became the first American to go the full 10 minutes in the strength and endurance competition. He lifted the 70-pound kettlebells 60 times with his right arm and 64 with his left for a total of 124 reps.</p>
<p>&#8220;Once you pick up the kettlebells, you can&#8217;t set them down,&#8221; said Durniat, a 6-foot-4, 217-pounder who&#8217;s a former Div. III college lacrosse</p>
<p>All-American. &#8220;You do as many reps as possible in 10 minutes.</p>
<p>&#8220;The only way you can rest is to hold them against your chest in the &#8216;rack&#8217; position, but hold 140 pounds against your chest and see how difficult it becomes. It hurts, it&#8217;s challenging,&#8221; Durniat said. &#8220;It&#8217;s not easy by any means.&#8221;</p>
<p>There are countless exercises one can do with kettlebells and trainers say they replace results one could get from barbells, dumbbells, medicine balls, cardio equipment, etc., because kettlebells engage the entire body during lifts.</p>
<p>&#8220;I lift as a total body athlete now as opposed to doing isolated movements,&#8221; Durniat said.</p>
<p>Kettlebells may be used as the primary source for working out, or mixed in to lighter degrees with other more mainstream ways such, such as free weights or machines.Durniat said kettlebell lifters require &#8220;the perfect blend of strength and endurance.</p>
<p>&#8220;You don&#8217;t see 300-pounders lifting kettlebells. I&#8217;m in the heavyweight class at 217.&#8221;</p>
<p>But Durniat and other kettlebell lifters insist they can benefit people from all walks of life, young an old, male and female. You just have to be willing to out in some hard work and have the desire to be more fit.</p>

<p><i>Answer by guest33</i><br />Depends on your level of cardiovascular fitness. Take it easy and progress slowly as swings will really peg the heart rate as you&#8217;ll find out soon enough and always watch your form. I can tell you that you should keep a typical workout under 40 minutes. Outside of that, go nuts.</p>
<p>There&#8217;s several 20 minute routines. You can also time yourself for swings and snatches, say ten minutes, then try to improve how many you can do in that time frame. Take rests between sets!</p>

			<content:encoded><![CDATA[<p></p><p>If you have ever suffered from lower back pain, you know it can be a real pain in the ass. If you have ever suffered from very bad back pain that I have, you know can be debilitating. Even the most mundane daily tasks such as walking or standing on a chair can be a challenge. Many times the lower back pain and injury caused by a number of factors, but some of the biggest offenders are muscle weakness and muscle imbalances. Kettlebells can help correct these imbalances and weaknesses. Before we consider how kettlebells can help, let us consider some of the common weaknesses and imbalances. 1. Weak abdominal muscles. Your abs, when working properly help to keep the pelvis from moving too much or move in the wrong position when it moves, whether regular or mobile use. 2. Tight hip flexors. Pelvic flexors can walk, run, climb, stand, sit, dip, turn. When these muscles are tight, they pull the pelvis out of natural alignment. If your abs are weak, becomes a big problem. Furthermore, it is known that tight hip flexors prevent stomach working. 3. Poor Butt. Yes, everything is designed to help Derriere forward and act as a counterbalance to the bending moment. When this muscle is weak, among others, can be a disaster in your lower back. 4. Weak hamstrings. These are the muscles that run along the rear legs. They are also designed in collaboration with Butt, who moves forward and to counterbalance the upper body when bending. Of course there are other muscles that can contribute to back pain, but these are some of the main culprits. Kettlebell exercises based on Swing takeoffs and strengthen their weaknesses &#8211; the buttocks, abdominals and hamstrings. These Kettlebell exercises help correct muscle imbalances to protect the lower back over time. Honestly, most of Kettlebell exercises focus on the hips and core, and when done correctly, literally, have a magical effect on the body. Not only tight hips compared with the year of the session to relax and grow stronger and stronger, but it is not uncommon for old injuries to the shoulder shoulders moving away are also becoming more stable. In Australia, many top level sports teams such as the Australian Football League clubs such as Port Adelaide, Essendon and Fremantle, the Australian military forces and Australian Institute of sports are using kettlebell training as part of their physical preparation. It is no wonder that kettlebell training has become more popular in Perth, Western Australia and more personal trainers have jumped into the wagon and started offering kettlebell training as part of their services. Unfortunately, not all Perth personal trainers adequately trained to provide top notch or even proper basic kettlebell training instructions. For best training experience and safety, please refer to the following selection guidelines.</p>
<p><b>Perth Kettlebell Instructor Selection Guidelines</b></p>
<p><b>1. Cert IV Personal Trainer</b><br />&#013;Any kettlebell instructor in Australia and definitely in Perth, Western Australia must be a Cert IV qualified personal trainer. It is an Australian national vocational standard for a person to hold a Cert IV in personal training to be able to conduct personal training services. Anything less than that may mean that the instructor is not properly trained to understand how the human body cope and adapts to the demands of exercise.</p>
<p><b>2. Certified as a Kettlebell Instructor</b><br />&#013;It is a pre-requisite for anyone who wants to be a kettlebell instructor to gone through a high standard of kettlebell training and certification program before he can properly coach anyone. Look out for instructor that is certified by either Australian Kettlebells (AKI), American Kettlebell Club (AKC), Dragon Door (RKC), and International Kettlebell Fitness Federation (IKFF). Be sure to check with the instructor by asking for proof of certification.</p>
<p><b>3. Look the Part</b><br />&#013;The kettlebell instructor should take personal fitness and kettlebell training very seriously. He should be fit and healthy. He should also have done the kettlebell exercises and programs before getting his clients to do them. If he is unfit, out of shape, and could not even do the exercises that he is showing you, why would you be convinced that his training programs work?</p>
<p><b>4. Expert in Exercise Progression</b><br />&#013;The kettlebell instructor should be experienced enough able to customize training to various levels of fitness and skills. There is no one-size-fits all program that works.</p>
<p><b>5. Instructions Should Focus on Movements</b><br />&#013;Kettlebell training is all about training the movements and never about contracting individual muscles group as seen in most conventional bodybuilding workout. If your instructor get you to do a lot of lying triceps extension, french curls or bicep curls, it is time to look somewhere else for a much more qualified instructor.</p>
<p><b>6. Website</b><br />&#013;Any serious trainer should have at least a basic website where his potential clients can get information about his training experience and background in training. Providing kettlebell training should not be treated like a hobby, it should be treated like any business. If the kettlebell instructor does not have a website, chances are he is not going to be very bother with his services to you.</p>
<p><b>7. Social Proof</b><br />&#013;If instructor has been providing the highest standard of coaching and his training works, he should be able to provide testimonials in the form of written, videos and before after photos on his website.</p>
<p><b>8. Liability Insurance</b><br />&#013;Kettlebell instructors should carry a liability insurance because any type of exercise is going to have an inherent risk of injuries and death. Be sure to enquire about it. If the instructor does not have it, he may not be a qualified Cert Iv personal trainer as one needs to possess the qualification to obtain a liability insurance in Australia.</p>
<p><b>9. Be On Time</b><br />&#013;The instructor should be 10 minutes early before the scheduled training time to check out for the safety in the training location and answer any questions regarding kettlebell training or issues within his scope of practice.</p>
<p><b>10. FREE Trial</b><br />&#013;If the instructor is on top of his training, he should offer a trial kettlebell workout to prospective clients who want to find out more or have doubts about the training. This way, the clients can also gauge the quality of the training and the suitability of the trainer.</p>

              Want to know what is best Kettlebell exercises are? And no, do not fall into that cliche is not answered. There are only six Kettlebell exercises, which are worth your time and attention. This is, of course, change exercises, but here are the basics. And remember, just because they are basic, does not mean easy or unimportant. 1. Swing.<br />
Swing is the start-up Kettlebell exercise. It is performed by raising the dead to the Kettlebell locked position. Then there is literally thrown behind and between the legs with your back as flat, and chest out and head held high and eyes horizon. It is literally the foundation of all Kettlebell exercises, because it teaches you to use and move your hips. It has been said by former Brazilian Ju-Jitsu Champ, Steve Maxwell, Swing to take care of 90% of an athlete are strength and conditioning. You can expect to strengthen the hips, legs and trunk muscles. It will also strengthen the shoulders, arms, forearms and hands. In fact, it is really not a muscle that is intact in Swing. It also offers a powerful punch of cardiovascular conditioning. Is performed several times between 30 seconds and one minute at a time, Swing meets most of the possible need for a healthy heart and a massive pair of lungs get in phenomenal form. 2. The Turkish Get Up If the swing is the foundation kettlebell exercises, the Turks to Get should be the framework. 			<content:encoded><![CDATA[<p></p><p>The first kettlebell workshop I ever attended was taught by Mike Mahler. I had probably held a kettlebell twice in my life. I hear about his workshop, I think &#8221;awesome&#8221;, and off I go. The deal was that if you brought your own kettlebell with you, you got a copy of his DVD. So I take a 4kg kettlebell. It’s the smallest one they make…but hey, I was new and I thought it was the right size for me. Well, I proceeded to get teased <strong>all day</strong> about my “baby rattle”. By the end of the day, Mike and his assistants had literally bullied and scared me into getting a 12kg above my head…something that I considered impossible at the time. I was barely able to drive home, I hurt everywhere for a week, but I learned two important lessons:</p>
<p>1. I am <strong>much</strong> tougher than I thought; and</p>
<p>2. If you already work out, don&#8217;t buy the smallest kettlebell.</p>
<p>So, what size kettlebell is right for you? First of all, understand that no system is foolproof and everyone is different. The information below is a generalization based on my experience with many clients but you could be the exception, meaning: if your intuition tells you something different to what you read below, go with your gut.</p>
<p>Before we start, a technical side note.  Since kettlebells are from Russia, they are always listed in kilograms (kg) and not pounds (lbs).  So, to save you running to get your calculator or a Google search, here are the kettlebell sizes translated into pounds for those of us that are metrically impaired:</p>
<p>4kg = 9lbs  /  8kg = 18lbs  /  12kg = 26lbs  /  16kg = 35lbs</p>
<p>I know that may not seem like a lot of weight, but don’t let the numbers deceive you. Kettlebell training involves constant movement with a lot of repetitions; you will be amazed at how heavy they can feel after just a few minutes. So, use the following guidelines to pick the right size for you:</p>
<p><strong>For Women</strong><strong>:</strong></p>
<p>If you have never worked out in your life, have trouble carrying a gallon of water 20 yards, and are skinny and underweight, you should probably start with the <strong>4kg</strong>.</p>
<p>If you don&#8217;t work out at all but are moderately to seriously overweight, trust me when I tell you: you are stronger than you think you are. The <strong>8kg</strong> is probably a better choice for you.</p>
<p>If you work out &#8220;a bit&#8221; and can lift 15lbs above your head with one hand a couple of times, get the <strong>8kg</strong>. You might have to work up to doing all of the reps in my workouts, but it&#8217;s better to have a slightly-too-heavy kettlebell than one that&#8217;s way too light.</p>
<p>If you work out quite a lot and can get 25 pounds above your head a number of times, (and your shoulders are very strong and stable with no previous shoulder injuries) get the <strong>12kg</strong>. Again, you might have to work up to doing all the reps in my workouts.</p>
<p>If you are really strong, have plenty of experience with kettlebells and your cardio is great, get the <strong>16kg</strong>, but be warned that this is <strong>not</strong> a beginner or intermediate weight for women. Swinging 35lbs around and above your head is serious business.</p>
<p><strong>For Men</strong><strong>:</strong> (don&#8217;t let your testosterone get the best of you)</p>
<p>If you have never worked out in your life, have trouble carrying a gallon of water 20 yards, and are skinny and underweight, you should probably start with the <strong>8kg</strong>.</p>

<p>And if you are really strong, have plenty of experience with kettlebells and your cardio is great, get the <strong>20kg</strong> or heavier, but be warned that these are <strong>not</strong> beginner or intermediate weights for men. Swinging 44lbs around and above your head is serious business.</p>
<p>You might even decide to buy two sizes: an 8kg and a 12kg are a great beginner pair for most women. Men could start with the 16kg and 20kg. But again, I urge you to go with your gut. If you would be really nervous lifting the 12kg over your head, go with the 8kg and build your confidence first. All of these size kettlebells can be purchased on my website for a discounted price. Hopefully you’ll have a similar experience to mine, and find that you&#8217;re tougher than you think you are!</p>
