I&#8217;ve recently become interested in kettlebells.  I am trying to lose weight and so far have lost 15lbs with a Jillian Michaels work out video.  But I&#8217;ve become a little tired of it and want to try something else for awhile.  Has anyone tried kettlebells?  How much weight did you lose?<br />

I know they say that pills will not work, nevertheless they certainly worked for me, and they have been featured on CNN too. So do you only use kettlebells, or other equipment in conjunction with kettlebells? what other equipment do you use, and what exercise for that piece of equipment?</p>

<p><i>Answer by confusedmoon</i><br />There are guys(and girls) who use only kettlebells. Not good, it&#8217;s recommended to vary. You don&#8217;t HAVE TO use a barbell, but body work could or should be used together with kettlebells.</p>
<p>Kettlebells are used for explosive work. Doing only explosive work puts a lot of strain on your body, which is why it&#8217;s best to vary with other exercises.<br />
And kettlebells are usually too light to be used other than explosive-tools.</p>

If you have ever suffered from very bad back pain that I have, you know can be debilitating. Even the most mundane daily tasks such as walking or standing on a chair can be a challenge. Many times the lower back pain and injury caused by a number of factors, but some of the biggest offenders are muscle weakness and muscle imbalances. Kettlebells can help correct these imbalances and weaknesses. Before we consider how kettlebells can help, let us consider some of the common weaknesses and imbalances. 1. Weak abdominal muscles. Your abs, when working properly help to keep the pelvis from moving too much or move in the wrong position when it moves, whether regular or mobile use. 2. Tight hip flexors. Pelvic flexors can walk, run, climb, stand, sit, dip, turn. When these muscles are tight, they pull the pelvis out of natural alignment. If your abs are weak, becomes a big problem. Furthermore, it is known that tight hip flexors prevent stomach working. 3. Poor Butt. Yes, everything is designed to help Derriere forward and act as a counterbalance to the bending moment. When this muscle is weak, among others, can be a disaster in your lower back. 4. Weak hamstrings. These are the muscles that run along the rear legs. 			<content:encoded><![CDATA[<p></p><p>Kettlebells are a relatively new craze that&#8217;s spreading through the fitness and training community like wildfire. Although kettlebell enthusiasts claim to be the beneficiaries of little-known, but time-tested training methods handed down over the generations in exotic locales, the fact is that the vast majority of the kettlebell hype originated in the fertile mind of a marketing guru in various advertising agencies.  Truth be told: most kettlebell experts jumped on the bandwagon recently.</p>
<p>So, just because kettlebells are not really the secret training tool of yesterday&#8217;s ubermenchen doesn&#8217;t mean they&#8217;re completely worthless, does it? No it doesnt. They have their uses and they can serve a role in any fitness program. But there&#8217;s a catch. The catch is: kettlebells underperform their more familiar cousin the dumbbell, and they underperform by a significant margin, despite costing much, much more.</p>
<p><strong>Kettlebells versus Dumbbells</strong></p>
<p>The expense and lack of versatility inherent in fixed-weight kettlebells far outstrips their usefulness for warming up and conditioning. Furthermore, there is no good reason to perform these common tasks with a kettlebell when a dumbbell serves just as well. Virtually anything that can be done with a kettlebell is possible with a dumbbell, and dumbbells are safer, cheaper, and easily adjustable with regards to weight.</p>
<p>Exercise progression, from light to medium to heavy weight, is difficult if not impossible with fixed-weight kettlebells. With adjustable dumbbells, it is as simple as adding another weight plate. This is by far the main advantage that adjustable dumbbells have over kettlebells.</p>
<p>Grip strength is often the limiting factor in pulling exercises like snatches, cleans, or swings. The thick, ungainly kettlebell handles tax the grip and fundamentally alter the workout from one consisting of full-body compound movements to one filled with grip-specific isolation exercises. While grip work is undoubtedly important, it should not take precedence over full-body fitness. Using an adjustable dumbbell, on the other hand, allows you to perform swings, cleans, snatches, and other pulls with a comfortable, ergonomic handle that won&#8217;t draw attention to itself by limiting your performance and injuring the skin on your palms.</p>
<p><strong>Kettlebells are inferior to adjustable Dumbbells</strong></p>
<p>Kettlebells are intentionally minimalist.  Dumbbells have evolved over the years to serve as wide a range of purposes as possible, while maintaining the simple design elements that set them apart as one of the most useful fitness tools around. Don&#8217;t fall for the kettlebell hype, stick to dumbbells and replace hype with progress.</p>

<p>Unlike with kettlebells, conditioning workouts utilizing one or two adjustable dumbbells are scalable. That is, you can easily adjust the weight until you are able to challenge yourself with the rep range you need.</p>
<p>This is in direct contrast to kettlebell conditioning workouts. In these sub-standard workouts, you are forced to adapt your workout to the kettlebell, instead of adjusting the tool to your needs.</p>
<p>One rarely-voiced fact about kettlebells is that they tear up the skin on your palms. Unless you spend literally months developing thick, resilient calluses, a good set of kettlebell snatches will earn you a magnificent crop of painful, debilitating blisters. <p>Dumbbells are also better than kettlebells at maintaining joint integrity in the shoulder, elbow and wrist. Anyone interested in martial arts conditioning knows that these joints are crucial to the proper pursuit of the pastime. With kettlebells, you risk hyperextension and repetitive stress injuries, especially during the high-rep work necessitated by a non-adjustable kettlebell of less than ideal weight.</p>
<p><strong>DUMBBELLS ARE OVERLOOKED MARTIAL ARTS CONDITIONING TOOLS</strong></p>
<p>Virtually anything you can do with a kettlebell, you can also do with an adjustable dumbbell. The only difference is: dumbbells allow you to do it safer, more efficiently, and with less expense than kettlebells.</p>
